Ensuring Growth and Vitality for Future Generations

Foundation Giving and The Economy

What impact has "The Great Recession" had on the Geneseo Foundation's ability to enhance the quality of life for citizens of Geneseo and the surrounding area? The short answer is simply, none. The Geneseo Foundation is on pace to payout over $300,000.00 in grants again this fiscal year.

The Central Bank Illinois Trust Division manages the investments for The Geneseo Foundation. As a fiduciary, Central Bank is held accountable to the highest standards under The Uniform Prudent Investor Act. Central Bank implements the investment approach referred to as Modern Portfolio Theory, which requires strict discipline with respect to the diversification of assets. This investment process has allowed the Geneseo Foundation to maintain their level of support for worthwhile projects and organizations in our community.

The Board of Managers carefully evaluates grant applications, considering the support to non-profit organizations and the geographic areas served. This responsibility has taken on an even higher degree of importance during these turbulent economic times. The needs of our local charitable and non-profit organizations continually change. The Geneseo Foundation remains a strong viable resource for local charitable organizations by adhering to a disciplined investment policy. The Foundation's Board of Managers continues to honor the values and causes established by George B. Dedrick's original gift.

Matching Grants Make Your Donation Go Farther

Atkinson Public Library and the Geneseo Historical Association

The Geneseo Foundation can provide matching grants to organizations who may have larger projects. A matching grant simply means that when you support a particular project, your donation goes farther due to the Geneseo Foundation matching the funds raised. Currently, the Foundation has matching grants pledged to the Atkinson Public Library and the Geneseo Historical Association.

The Atkinson Public Library is seeking donations for a remodel and relocation project underway. The Foundation has pledged a matching grant of $1.00 for every $4.00 raised by the library, to a maximum of $15,000.00. Supporters may forward their donation to Ninette Carton at the Atkinson Public Library, 109 South State Street, Atkinson, IL 61235. This matching grant period ends March 31, 2010.

The Geneseo Historical Association is also the recipient of a Geneseo Foundation matching grant; $1.00 for every $3.00 raised by the Association to a maximum of $30,000.00. This grant supports a new Education Wing addition to the Geneseo Historical Museum. The matching period for this grant ends March 31, 2010. If you would like to support the museum and make your donation go farther, contact the Geneseo Historical Museum Curator, Angie Snook, 205 South State, Geneseo IL 61254. Visit the museum's website at www.geneseohistoricalmuseum.com for more information or e-mail ghmuseum@geneseo.net.

When you choose to support matching grant projects, your commitment goes farther, thanks to the Geneseo Foundation.
